Position Summary:
Washburn University Institute of Technology invites applications for Technical Instructor in the Medical Assistant program. This is a 10-month, benefit eligible position with an August 1, 2026 start date.
The Medical Assistant Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students enrolled in the Medical Assistant program. This role involves teaching both clinical and administrative skills, preparing students for certification exams and employment in healthcare settings. The instructor will foster an engaging learning environment that promotes student success and meets accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:
• Develop and deliver curriculum for Medical Assistant courses, including classroom and online instruction, laboratory demonstrations, practical skills training, and clinical coordination.
• Deliver instruction and demonstration of clinical procedures (e.g., vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, EKG, patient transfer) and administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, billing, electronic health records).
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with program objectives.
• Evaluate student performance in the classroom and clinical setting and provide timely feedback.
• Observe and assess student performance in the clinical setting while ensuring tasks are performed in a safe and competent manner.
• Assist students in the development of understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
• Stay current with industry trends, certification requirements, and best practices in medical assisting.
• Develop and maintain an engaging classroom culture that optimizes student learning.
• Advise and mentor students to support academic and professional growth.
• Use continuous quality improvement techniques to determine the effectiveness of instruction and student success.
• Build and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and facilitate advisory board meetings each semester.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, program improvement initiatives, and serve on campus-wide shared governance council, as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies and job-related duties.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• Certification as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or higher in a related healthcare field.
• At least three years of work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
• Demonstrated practical knowledge of clinical and administrative medical assisting procedures.
• Proven effective communication skills and proficiency with technology and electronic health record systems.
• Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or higher in a related healthcare field.
• Official educational transcripts are required at the time of hire.
Physical Requirements:
• Classroom, laboratory, and off-site clinical settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
• Associate degree in healthcare or education.
