Position Summary: The position will provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction as a part of the Adult Basic Education program at Washburn University Institute of Technology, located at 2014 SE Washington Street, Topeka, KS 66604. This position reports to the Director of Adult Education. This position will work closely with all other adult education staff to coordinate service delivery and program design.
This position is funded in full by a grant award.

Essential Functions:
• Adopt the curriculum used by the ESL program; prepare lesson plans and instruct students through individual instruction and/or small group instruction, and at times via Zoom or online delivery of instruction.
• The instruction will focus on reading, vocabulary development, listening, speaking, writing, and grammar.
• Perform effectively in the learning environment by being prepared, maintaining discipline, and engaging students in the learning process.
• Take daily attendance, submit attendance weekly, and follow up with students who have missed class without communication.
• Collect and analyze student performance data with the Director of Adult Education and the ABE Coordinator.
• Evaluate student learning and adjust instruction as needed.
• Maintain records of student progress and contribute to the documentation of the ESL program for the mandatory grant reports.
• Act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect toward students, staff, and colleagues.
• Seek opportunities for professional development or advancement of educational degrees.
• Participate in recruitment and orientation efforts as needed.
• Complete mandatory training offered through the Kansas Board of Regents.
• Participate in graduation ceremonies and other ceremonial events as required for the department.
• In addition to these essential functions, these instructors are expected to adhere to college and University policies and to perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Experience Teaching Adults
• ESL teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education
• Experience Co-Teaching or Team Teaching
