Position Summary: Washburn University's Physics and Astronomy Department invites applications for a Physics Lecturer to begin August 1, 2024. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track position.
Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
The Physics and Astronomy Department offers undergraduate programs in physics, computational physics, and pre-engineering, as well as offering introductory and general education courses in physics, astronomy, and geology. Our faculty enjoy teaching small classes as well as the opportunity to mentor students and become involved in campus activities.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill teaching expectations associated with appointment as a lecturer.
• Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or an equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook. Teach and develop undergraduate classes and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs, which may include lower-division physics courses, upper-division optics, and optics laboratory courses, upper-division electronics laboratory courses, or some combination of classes consistent with the candidate’s training and interests.
• Fulfill service expectations associated with appointment as a lecturer by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Physics or a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Official transcripts required at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Physics or a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching physics at the undergraduate level.
• Experience teaching upper-division physics laboratory courses.
• Experience using physics education research-based curricula.
