Position Summary: Washburn University's Department of Kinesiology invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Sport Management to begin Fall 2024. This is a 9-month tenure track position. A completed doctorate is necessary for a tenure-track appointment.
Class sizes at Washburn are small, and students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in community-engaged learning. There are multiple degrees and programs within the Kinesiology Department at Washburn University with clinical, health and fitness, sport management, and teaching career options. This position will be responsible for much of the coursework and student internships within the Bachelor of Art Sport Management degree.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill teaching expectations associated with tenure-track appointment. Teach 12 hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or an equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Supervise student internships.
• Teach and develop undergraduate classes and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs, consistent with the candidate’s training and interests.
• Advise students and maintain regular office hours.
• Fulfill service expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
• Fulfill scholarship expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment and pursue an active research program that can involve students.
Required Qualifications:
• An earned Doctoral degree in Sport Management or a related area. ABD applicants will be considered, with the completion of the doctorate by May 2025.
• Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching college-level kinesiology and sport management courses including Experience in Facility and Event Management, Organization and Administration in Kinesiology, Microcomputer Applications to Kinesiology, Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, Coaching Principles & Philosophy, and Physical Activity Techniques.
• Experience supervising student internships.
