Position Summary: Washburn University's Education Department invites applications for a Lecturer, Generalist to begin August 1, 2025. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment as a Lecturer.

Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.

Washburn University offers undergraduate programs leading to licensure in elementary, middle, secondary, and PreK-12 areas as well as graduate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, and Educational Leadership. The Department of Education houses the elementary and special education programs and supports programs in the secondary and PreK-12 programs. Faculty in the Department of Education have the opportunity to work with students in all disciplines through various core education courses and field experiences. The Education Department works closely with several partner school districts in the Topeka area. The selected candidate will join a team of dedicated faculty members and community partners.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill teaching expectations associated with non-tenure-track appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Teach and develop classes and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs.
• Advise students, maintain office hours in accordance with SAS and university policy, attend meetings, and engage in service activities in the Department, the School of Applied Studies, the University, the profession, and the community
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Education.
• Experience working with students in Pre-K, Elementary, Middle and/or Secondary settings.
• Experience developing and implementing standards-based curriculum.
• Graduate training or experience appropriate to teach courses in three or more areas (including, but not limited to: introduction to the education profession, educational foundations, classroom management, curriculum & instruction, educational psychology, STEM education, special education, literacy education, inclusive teaching practices in education, or social studies education).
• Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.
• Official transcripts are required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Terminal degree in education or related field.
• Three or more years’ experience teaching in Pre-K, Elementary, Middle and/or Secondary settings.
• Experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements.
• Evidence of successful co-teaching including co-planning, development of integrated content, assessment, evaluation procedures and conferencing with students.
• Experience teaching at the college and/or university level.
• Evidence of successful collaboration with Pre-K, Elementary, Middle and/or Secondary faculty and staff within the school setting.
• Experience working with school-university partnerships (such as Professional Development Schools partnerships).
