Position Summary: Washburn University's Art Department invites applications for a Lecturer in Art History to begin August 1, 2025. This is a renewable 9-month, non-tenure track position that includes the potential for promotion to senior lecturer.

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), Art History faculty in the Art Department enjoy a low student-to-faculty ratio, flexibility in teaching schedule, access to the stellar Mulvane Art Museum collection, and the robust support of the University and our larger Topeka community. In addition to teaching a diverse community of general education, Art, and Art History students, Art History faculty support the Museum and Curatorial Studies minor and the African American and African Diaspora Studies minor.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill teaching expectations associated with non-tenure-track appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or the equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Teach and develop undergraduate classes and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs, which may include a variety of art history courses, from introductory to advanced courses such as Art Theory or some combination of classes consistent with the candidate’s training and interests.
• Advise Art and Art History students and contribute to ongoing development of Art History curriculum.
• Critically engage with student work, including studio projects, and work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Fulfill service expectations associated with non-tenure-track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• Master of Arts in Art History.
• College-level teaching experience as the instructor of record.
• Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
• Official educational transcripts required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Art History.
• Research and teaching specialization in Modern and Contemporary Art with a primary or secondary focus outside of Western Europe and the United States.
• Two or more years teaching Art History at the University or College level.
• Exhibition and curatorial experience.
• Demonstrated ability to teach best practices in Art History and Museum and Curatorial Studies as evidenced by recent scholarly activity within these disciplines.
