Position Title: Cashier (Part-Time, Washburn Tech)

Department: WIT-Business Office

Advertised Pay: Base $15.02/hour with potential for a higher entry rate commensurate with experience

Campus Location: Washburn Tech

Position Summary: Cashiers are responsible for providing a high level of customer service when answering various student account-related inquiries while maintaining federally required FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) student account privacy requirements in any discussions with anyone but the student. The position works in concert with other members of the Business Office staff, performing various cash handling functions that are verified via established accounting procedures.

The assigned location and tasks will primarily be on the Washburn Institute of Technology campus, but will be flexible and determined by current location needs. This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position.

Essential Functions:
• Receive and receipt payments on student accounts made at the cashier window, by mail, or by drop box.
• Assist students in the use of the online payment system to view account balances, make payments, establish payment plans, or set up authorized users.
• Answer questions related to student accounts and Business Office processes and procedures via the phone, email and/or in person. Refer questions to other staff as appropriate.
• Reprint 1098-T tax forms when necessary and disburse with proper verification.
• Organize and disburse checks (obtaining signatures, proper ID, and date stamping check stubs/ copies when appropriate) for excess financial aid.
• Process deposit forms and payments from University departments for a variety of goods and services.
• Notify departments of returned checks recorded in departmental deposits.
• Close and balance cash drawer daily against software program used for cashiering session report.
• Provide cashiering support for special events or sales on campus, reconcile funds received to document income, and credit to the appropriate department.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• One to two years of experience providing administrative support and/or cashiering.
• Ability to provide high-quality customer service and effective communication skills.
• Proven ability to learn new and changing computer applications.
• Ability to balance a cash drawer and work effectively as part of a small team and individually.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and tolerate working in close proximity with other staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Completion of post-secondary education course(s) in bookkeeping or accounting.
• Prior cash handling work experience.
• Knowledge of accounts receivable.
