Position Summary: The Athletics Facilities Manager supports the strategic oversight and manages the athletic facility operations. Develops operational policies, manages budgets, and directs facility staff. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and Washburn policies while maintaining high standards for safety, efficiency, and user experience. The Manager must exercise independent judgment in scheduling, staffing, contracting, and facilities planning.

Essential Functions:
● Assist with developing, implementing and enforcing comprehensive policies and procedures governing facility access, safety protocols, scheduling practices, and operational standards. Ensure full compliance with all NCAA, MIAA, and University regulations.
● Oversee and authorize the reservation and prioritization of facility use through the campus scheduling system. Coordinate closely with the University Scheduling Office and external partners to resolve conflicts and optimize space utilization.
● Maintain departmental calendars for all athletic facilities to ensure real-time communication of facility availability and upcoming events to internal staff and stakeholders.
● Provide leadership in the day-to-day management of athletic facilities, ensuring all areas are clean, safe, and properly prepared for practices, competitions, and events. Conduct regular inspections and guide staff in addressing operational deficiencies.
● Partner with appropriate staff to support pre-game and halftime promotions, sponsor signage installation, and event staffing coordination. Serve as a primary liaison for game officials and event services including concessions, security, and custodial support.
● Directly supervise full-time, part-time, and student facility staff. Lead all aspects of workforce management including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and corrective action. Oversee third-party game-day workers and ensure effective event coverage.
● Coordinate facility setup and preparation, including equipment staging, locker room readiness, and hospitality suite arrangements for teams, officials, and VIPs.
● Approve and track work orders, manage vendor relationships, and ensure timely, high-quality completion of facility repairs and maintenance projects.
● Prepare and manage annual operating budgets for all athletics facilities. Evaluate, negotiate, and approve service contracts with external vendors.
● Manage digital and physical access to athletic facilities, including iCard and keypad access for locker rooms, weight rooms, and other secure areas. Coordinate logistical planning for tailgating zones and reserved parking areas.
● Serve as a key member of the Athletic Department leadership team. Contribute to long-term planning initiatives related to facility development, operational improvements, revenue generation, and fan engagement strategies.
● Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree.
● Experience required.
● Demonstrated knowledge of facilities management.
● Proven effective communication skills.
● A valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable by Washburn standards.
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to move and/or maneuver equipment/materials weighing as much as 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Demonstrated knowledge of MIAA and NCAA DII rules and regulations.
● Athletics facilities management experience.
● Supervisory experience.
● Demonstrated effective organizational and management skills.
● Budget/Vendor Management Experience.
● Knowledge of BlueFrame Production Truck, Daktronics Video Systems and SkyCoach.
