Position Summary: The assigned location or tasks between Washburn University and Washburn University Institute of Technology will be flexible and determined by location needs.
This is a part-time position, working a rotation schedule of 40 hours per pay period (two weeks), and is eligible for part-time benefits. The schedule is five business days on (Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm) and five business days off. High-volume time periods might require additional days assigned.

Essential Functions:
Cashiers are responsible for providing a high level of customer service when answering various student account related inquiries while maintaining federally required FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) student account privacy requirements in any discussions with anyone but the student. The position works in concert with other members of the Business Office staff performing various cash handling functions that are verified via established accounting procedures.
• Receive and receipt payments on student accounts made at the cashier window, by mail, or by drop box.
• Assist students in the use of the online payment system to view account balances, make payments, establish payment plans, or set up authorized users.
• Respond to student inquiries regarding account balances. Referring questions to other staff as appropriate.
• Answer student account-related questions via the phone, email and/or in person.
• Reprint 1098-T tax forms when necessary and disburse, only with proper verification.
• Organize and disburse checks, (obtaining signatures, proper ID, and date stamping check stubs/ copies when appropriate) for excess financial aid and emergency student loans.
• Notify students of returned checks submitted for payment on student account.
• Notify departments of returned checks recorded in departmental deposits.
• Open and close safe daily.
• Count vault cash daily, rotating with other cashier on duty.
• Receive and receipt payments from University departments made at the cashier window, by mail, by telephone, or by drop box.
• Close and balance cash drawer daily against software program used for cashiering session report.
• Submit checks to bank via remote deposit scanner, balancing bank approval(s) to session.
• Field incoming Business Office calls.
• Answer general University questions for visitors to the cashier window.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• One to two years of experience providing administrative support and/or cashiering.
• Ability to provide effective customer service and communication skills.
• Proven ability to learn new and changing computer applications.
• Ability to alphabetize, balance a cash drawer, and work well in a small team environment.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and tolerate working in close proximity with other staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Completion of post-secondary education course(s) in bookkeeping or accounting.
• Money handling work experience.
• Knowledge of accounts receivable.
