Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Social Media at Washburn is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the overall strategy for Washburn’s social media presence. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing in the Public Relations Office, this position runs the Bod Talk accounts while overseeing and coordinating all accounts associated with Washburn. In addition to developing and managing social media calendars, this role is responsible for ensuring all content meets brand standards and Washburn’s social media guidebook. This position serves as leader of Washburn’s Digital Task Force, providing training and best practices while encouraging collaboration and a unified campus voice and message.
This individual must display a high level of professional judgement and demonstrate an ability and willingness to work collaboratively with teammates across all campuses including departments, schools and the college. While working to strengthen internal connections, the Assistant Director of Social Media also will identify avenues to strengthen relationships with external partners and community collaborators.
In addition, the position assists in the planning and implementation of campus events and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
• Multi-platform content creator
• Daily operation and management of Washburn’s main internal accounts, Bod Talk
• Closely collaborate with Washburn’s main external accounts, Washburn University
• Implement and monitor brand standards on all Washburn social accounts
• Develop, create, implement and evolve Washburn’s social media strategy
• Monitor social media activity and respond when appropriate
• Collaborate with colleagues at Washburn to ensure unified, system-wide messaging
• Stay up to date on the latest social media trends and platforms
• Assist with campus events
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• One to two years of experience managing business/corporate social media accounts/channels
• Experience as an influencer is considered a plus
• Proven effective social media skills; experience with various social media platforms
• Highly creative content creator with experience in identifying target audiences and devising social campaigns and content that engage, inform and motivate
• Demonstrated proficient writing ability
• Ability to take initiative and share leadership in campus-wide initiatives and events
• Demonstrated creativity and strategic skills
• Proven effective organizational and project management abilities
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Demonstrable leadership, professional judgement and team management skills
• Driver’s license with a driving record acceptable by the University’s standards
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to maneuver equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience managing social media accounts in the workplace
• Experience with photography and videography
• Experience in building social media followers
• Experience in creating clever content with high engagement
