Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor, Lecturer Social Work (Two positions)

Position Summary: Washburn University’s Social Work Department invites applications for two Assistant/Associate Professors or lecturers with conversion to tenure track positions to begin August 1, 2025. These are both 9-month full-time appointments. If hired as a lecturer with conversion, the conversion date to tenure track will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications at the time of hire.

The Social Work Department offers nationally accredited BSW and MSW programs designed to prepare students to be dedicated and conscientious social workers. Washburn provides a robust faculty development program and opportunities for travel funding, internal research, and faculty development grants.

Essential Functions:
• Teach 12 credit hours per semester or a full workload as defined by the faculty handbook.
• Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate social work courses in assigned modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, face-to-face, Zoom, etc.).
• Advise students, maintain office hours in accordance with the School of Applied Studies (SAS) and university policy, attend meetings, and engage in service activities in the Department, the School of Applied Studies, the University, the profession, and the community
• Fulfill expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment for teaching, service, and scholarship

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program.
• To be eligible for an assistant/associate professor tenure track position, applicants must have a doctoral degree in social work or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have their doctorate completed by May 1, 2025.
• To be eligible for a lecturer with conversion to tenure track line, applicants must provide evidence of their timeline for completing a doctoral degree in social work or a closely related field.
• At least two years of post-masters social work degree practice experience in social work.
• The selected candidate will have a demonstrated dedication to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
• Official transcript required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Active social work license
• A doctoral degree in social work
• Post-secondary teaching experience in university or professional settings. Preference will be given to teaching experience in a CSWE-accredited program.
• Experience teaching research methods or mentoring student research projects.
• Evidence of scholarly work related to the field of social work, including but not limited to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or research in progress.
