Position Summary: Washburn University’s Department of Music invites applications for the position of Applied Voice. The position will begin August 1, 2025. This position is a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment as Lecturer. A completed doctorate is necessary for tenure-track appointment.

Essential Functions:
• Fulfill teaching expectations associated with a non-tenure track/lecturer appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Teach and develop undergraduate applied voice majors, classes, and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs, which may include Vocal Techniques, Vocal Diction I and II and Vocal Pedagogy or some combination of classes consistent with the candidate’s training and interests.
• Fulfill service expectations associated with a non-tenure track/lecturer appointment by engaging in recruitment activities in the department, university, and profession to include, school visits, clinics, networking with local music educators, and participation in on-campus recruitment events/festivals.
• Assist musical theatre faculty, students, and productions.
• Develop and maintain an active portfolio of scholarly research/creative activities and service including a national and international profile.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate. Additional responsibilities may include the advising of undergraduate voice majors, and participation on department committees.
Required Qualifications:
• Doctorate in Music; ABD applicants will be considered with completion of doctorate by August 1, 2026.
• A successful record of collegiate level teaching in applied voice.
• A successful record of recruiting and maintaining a studio of voice students at the collegiate level.
• Demonstrated dedication to developing teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
• Official educational transcripts are required at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Soprano voice type preferred.
• Professional performance experience in a variety of musical genres (classical, jazz, commercial, musical theater).
• Experience teaching/coaching and performing in chamber ensembles.
• Experience teaching collegiate level vocal diction and pedagogy courses.
• Experience in directing collegiate musical theater programs and music for the stage.
