Position Title: Assistant Coach, Cross Country and Track – Recruiting Coordinator

Department: XC Track and Field Men

Advertised Pay: Lower $40,000's

Position Summary: This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the general leadership of the men’s and women’s cross country/track and field teams. This position will have the primary role of recruiting coordinator, which includes scouting and recruiting quality student athletes to the program. The position is expected to conduct all assigned tasks in a manner that supports program compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and Washburn University policies, rules, and regulations.

Essential Functions:
• Assist with coaching and developing the skills of Washburn Track and Field athletes.
• Provide individual and group coaching and guidance to assist with running practices, workouts, and meets.
• Responsible for scouting, contacting, and tracking potential student athletes within the guidelines of the program’s model.
• Responsible for organizing official and unofficial visits for potential student athletes invited to campus.
• Assist the head coach with the operation of home meets; track the academic progress and success of recruits and current student athletes; and assist in the coordination of fundraising, camps, clinics, and special events.
• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience coaching and/or participating in cross country and/or track.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with student athletes, coaches, staff, and parents.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record under Washburn's standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree.
• Collegiate participation in cross country and/or track.
